Helping students retain learning
I posted the comment below in response to Think Music blog. Writing to former students during the summer (and school term too?) is a powerful tool for helping students retain and extend what they have learned. My posted comment "I admire teachers who prepare and send home with the students packets of work to keep the students current over the summer. You have taken this principle one very big step further. Bravo!"

Where do You Live from the Corner of Education Street?
Is your neighborhood as good as you want it to be? Is it run down? Or are the values high as can be?
It's a Route that Crosses the Whole Country
So Education Street is one of the longest streets in the country. (Let's not talk about the world right now.) There are almost numberless intersections. There is a crossroad at every budget, public policy, private desire. Children and parents all live at the crossroads.
My Address
I asked where you live, so I should tell you where I live. I am a teacher and a PhD in Education Administration. I have been active in educational settings from K to post-grad for over 40 years. You could say that I have lived in the intersections of Education Street and many other routes. Every location has been in the center of a fascinating community. There's been neighborhood strife, blooming expectation, dedication and determination, self-confidence and self-doubt. I've both watched from the stands and sweated it out on the field.

Right from Here
Education Street cuts across the whole USA. The cross streets are almost numberless, and there is a cross street in every neighborhood, every public policy, and every budget. Children and parents live in the crossroads. Yes, "in." Let's explore that further as we get to know the neighborhoods and policies. Others may live a distance from the busy traffic.

Starting a blog is easy. Being relevant isn't. Education Street cuts across the whole USA. The whole world.
